Cup competitions took the spotlight this weekend with teams in volved in the FA Trophy and FA Vase.

WELWYN GARDEN CITY produced an excellent performance at Horsham to progress to the First Round of the FA Trophy for the first time in their history. The Citizens matched their higher level oponents and despite falling behind to a Chris Smith header. The introduction of the fit again George IRONTON changed the game the midfielder equalising after 68 minutes. The tie then went to penalties with the first four Citizens finding the net Aaron Hopkinson’s miss left Patrick AKWASI to complete a memorable afternoon with the final kick.

HODDESDON TOWN bowed out of the FA Vase after being comprehensively beaten at Walsham Le Willows 5-1. Jack GIBBS got the Lillywhites goal.
